Flashback COPA 2002 - MK/JFK ParaMilitary Covert-Ops

Back in 2002 I attende the Coalition On Political Assassination conference
in Dallas. I videotaped nearly the entire 4 day event. I wrote a review for
the Austin Para Times newspaper I was editing back then. Below is a reprint
of that article with links to more online audio of the lectures and
photographs of the speakers. --SMiles

2002 Regional Meeting, November 21st - 24th, 2002

"Our choice now seems to be between a 'new war' and a new world. As always,
the forces of reaction and wealth are telling us we have no choice but war,
and no right or power to decide. They are calling for a secret
investigation, a secret conviction, a secret method of execution, and a
totally secret war abroad. The American people as a whole are the only ones
in the world who have the right to decide on a national response to this
tragedy, and it must be one that takes into account the rights of all the
other peoples and nations of the world." --John Judge, 9/23/01

Walt Brown, Ph.D. - Keynote Speaker & Counter Critics panel

Exhaustive researcher into the Warren Commission and the JFK
assassination, author of People v. Lee Harvey Oswald, The Warren Omission,
and a CD index to the Commission volumes. Walt is the editor of Deep
Politics Quarterly , a magazine about the Kennedy murder.

William Turner - Keynote Speaker, RFK, Jim Garrison & JE Hoover panels

Former FBI agent from the reign of J. Edgar Hoover who has been blowing
the whistle on their lies and excesses for many years, Turner has authored
and co-authored several books on the political assassinations, including his
recent memoir, Rear View Mirror.

Dr. Gary Aguilar - Counter Critics & New JFK evidence panels

Expert on the medical evidence in the JFK case, contributor to Murder
in Dallas, and co-author of a new book with Dr. Charles Crenshaw on the
Dallas medical evidence. Gary spoke on the Counter Critics panel about the
skeptic Posner as well as on the JFK panel about his perspectives on the
autopsy evidence.

Bill Kelly - Counter Critics, JFK, & 911 panels and Future of COPA meeting

Journalist and researcher who has studied political assasssinations for
many years. Co-founder with John Judge of the Committee for an Open
Archives, a founding group of COPA. Bill continues to write for the online
network called JFK Research, and is pursing full release of records and a
Grand Jury reopening of the JFK murder. He spoke on these efforts as well as
the "smoking gun" evidence for a deliberate standing down of military
aircraft during the September 11th hijackings.

"... am attempting to get additional witnesses and suspects deposed
under oath, gather evidence and to attempt to get Grand Jury indictments
against those responsible for crimes related to the assassination -
obstruction of justice, perjury, destruction of evidence, Smith Act, etc. I
have not concentrated my research on the scientific areas, but would like to
know why the scientific community has not taken up the work on the acoustics?
I too was perplexed by the UFO phenom among JFK assassination research -
and was not surpised to learn that A.F. General Charles Cabell, bro of the
Dallas mayor, was in charge of Project Bluebook, that UFOs were used to
protect the U2 and were used in psychological warfare operations. The 1947
Seatle, Washington sightings were first reported by Fred Crisman, believed
to be one of the Tramps and a Jim Garrison suspect.
What really threw me however, was when I tracked down Arthur Young,
shortly before he died. Young is Michael Paine's step-father, and inventor
of the Bell Helicopter. As I interviewed him for two hours, with tape
recorder running, he figured out my astrology chart and asked me if I was an
alien! He thought I was from the Pleadies, and showed me a book written by a
retired AF officer from Arizona that had photos of aliens from the Pleadies.
When I got home I called the author of the book, who did not have any more
copies to sell (limited edition), but confirmed that he had worked at
Wright-Pat AFB in Dayton, Ohio and was assigned to Project Bluebook under
General Cabell."

Lisa Pease - RFK and JFK panels

A lifelong information activist, Lisa is also former editor (with Jim
DiEugenio) of the now-defunct Probe. She presented ample evidence for Mind
Control and Conspiracy within the Robert F. Kennedy assassination involving
alleged MK patsy Sirhan Sirhan - who may only be guilty of firing blanks at
RFK as cover for the other gunmen's bullets. She also spoke on James Jesus
Angleton's involvement with the Kennedy Assassination. She contends that
James Angleton, the infamous spymaster who for twenty-five years headed the
CIA's counterintelligence unit, was deeply involved with the Oswald / JFK
saga both before and after the assassination of President Kennedy.

Larry Teeter - RFK panel

Larry is the current counsel for imprisoned RFK "assassin" Sirhan
Sirhan. For RealAudio/Video of Mr. Teeter's presentation at past Press
Conferences on behalf of his client visit this link:
For a 1994 interview with Mr. Teeter:

Donald Thomas - New JFK evidence panel

Mr. Thomas presented Echo Location analysis of existing audio tapes
from the time of the Dealey Plaza assassination:
"Donald Thomas, an investigative author for Britain's Forensic Science
Society, conducted a new acoustical study of the sound recordings and again
mapped out a fourth shot coming from the infamous Grassy Knoll. 'The
gunshot-like sounds occur exactly synchronous with the time of the
shooting,' wrote Donald Thomas for the publication Science and Justice."

Mr. Thomas' work was also used in proving precisely which shots at Kent
State were fired by which individual. When confronted with the evidence the
individuals confessed:
"... acoustics study of the Kent State shooting for the Department of
Justice. ... using the exact same procedure - echo location - and the audio
record of the incident, Barger had identified the physical locations to
within ten feet of where the first several gunshots were fired. Using
photographs and films of the incident, the Department of Justice identified
the individual National Guardsmen in those specific locations. When these
men were arrested - all admitted that they had fired their weapons."

Jerry Smith - New JFK evidence panel

Jerry presented the famous Zapruder film with specific attention
focused on the parts of the film stock not projected but which still record
visual information. He contends that their is evidence in that specific
region of the film which suggests the original film has in fact been altered
and may have been shot at a faster film speed.

T Carter - New JFK evidence, 911 and MLK update panels

T is a dedicated researcher who has worked on both JFK and MLK cases
with Judge Joe Brown, among others. Her first report was on her efforts to
weigh the infamous Minox camera held in the National Archives. The effort to
weigh the alleged CIA spy cam "found" at Oswald's residence is to discover
what if anything may have been used to seal and/or fill the interior portion
of the Bic lighter sized camera. The camera has been impenatrable. As it
turns out the camera does weigh more than the 200 or more weighed by T.
Carter.
On the second night of the conference gave an update on the Martin
Luther King case related to securing of the rifle everyone believes is NOT
the real assassination weapon and how Denny's (!) has taken up sponsorship
of the MLK Assassination museum.
The final day of the event, Ms. Carter related her connections to the
September 11th case. She is a flight attendant and one of her usual routes
was Flight 77 - the plane that went into the Pentagon. Prior to 911, she
shared a flight with one of the alleged hijackers on his test runs. She said
that she believes the plane actually went into the Pentagon, contrary to a
popular internet theory. Her friends bodies and aircraft wreckage were
recovered from the scene of the impact which she visited. Other revelations
included privy knowledge of her flight attendant friends personal cell phone
call to her mother. During the call the flight attendant friend to the
mother that there were SIX hijackers - contradicting the number claimed by
the Government "authorities." She implored the audience to research
September 11th for this and other "discrepancies."

Robert Groden - New JFK Evidence

Former investigator for the House Select Committee on Assassinations,
and author of two books on the photographic and documentary evidence of
conspiracy, The Killing of A President and The Search for Lee Harvey Oswald.
Groden addressed recent claims that the Zapruder film has been altered or
faked. His own work on the acoustic evidence convinced the HSCA that there
was a second gunman. It was Groden who passed a copy of the Zapruder film to
Dick Gregory who then passed it to Geraldo Rivera who then played it on
National Television for the first time ever, allowing the American people to
see the truth for themselves.

Joe Biles - Jim Garrison panel

By far the youngest light in the JFK research community, Joe has
sparked hope that there are indeed a new generation of investigators to
carry the torch. Joe is a student in Lubbock and has garnered much
attention for his contribution to the research community: In History's
Shadow -Lee Harvey Oswald, Kerry Thornley and the Garrison Investigation.

Andrew Kiel - J Edgar Hoover panel

History teacher and author of the new book, J. Edgar Hoover: The Father
of the Cold War, presented his thesis on the role played by anti-Communist
Hoover in both the obstruction of the Warren Commission investigation, and
the escalation of the war in Vietnam.

Philip Melanson, Ph.D. - MLK updates panel

Expert in all three major political assassinations, and author of
numerous books including Spy Saga, The Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy,
and two books on the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King. He has recently
completed a book about the culture of government secrecy.

Lyndon Barsten - MLK updates panel

Independent researcher who has developed new evidence and documents
concerning the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He presented his
findings linking US intelligence agencies to James Earl Ray, and other
insights.
"The contacts and methods utilized in the murder of Dr. King bear the
signature of the CIA, including the probable use of MK-Ultra mind control
techniques. Parallel psychiatric irregularities at the Missouri prison
system are described by James Earl Ray and Jim Green, including the shocking
drugging of inmates which could render the indication of hypnosis easier or
otherwise enhance its usefulness. It seems highly likely that Jim was
subjected to psychological assessment and manipulation, the results of which
directed back to Federal Intelligence Agencies."

Michael Nurko - 911 panel

Mike cited numerous news items familiar to Alex Jones listeners and
affcianados of the 911 conspiracy. Mr. Nurko gave added detail to the story
of a CIA station chief meeting with Osama bin Laden in an American hospital
in Dubai the July before September 11th.

Dick Gregory - 911 panel & Future of COPA meeting

Mr. Gregory was "on the frontline in the sixties during the Civil
Rights Era. Gregory's activism continued into the 1990s. In response to
published allegations that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had
supplied cocaine to predominantly African American areas in Los Angeles,
thus spurring the crack epidemic, Gregory protested at CIA headquarters and
was arrested. In 1992 he began a program called 'Campaign for Human Dignity'
to fight crime in St. Louis neighborhoods."

Obviously Mr. Gregory and the others had a lot MORE to say. Much more
than we can print here. But rest assured, all of these presentations, in
fact the entire conference) will be repeatedly broadcast on Austin
Community Access Cable.

China Trips Up Its Barefoot Lawyers

China Trips Up Its Barefoot Lawyers

Chinas Minister of Public Security, Zhou Yongkang, is a very powerful man.
Mr. Zhou, who has never studied law, is the PRCs only law-related
government official to take part in the Politburo of the Chinese Communist
Party. At every level of the Chinese government, Mr. Zhous MPS underlings,
wearing their Party hats, dominate the Party political-legal committees that
coordinate the work of the courts, the prosecutors, the police and the
justice departments. Together with Luo Gan, a member of the Partys
innermost sanctumthe nine-member Politburo Standing Committeeand the
leader of the nationwide Party Political-Legal Committee, Mr. Zhou is
responsible for law enforcement in China, an awesome and difficult burden.

During his almost three years in office, Mr. Zhou has made a number of
encouraging speeches urging his colleagues in the police to comply with the
nations gradually improving criminal-justice legislation. Less known is the
fact that he has presided over a number of important internal reforms within
the mps.

These seek to make local public-security bureaus more obedient to national
legislation and the mps headquarters in Beijing rather than to the local
Party and government powerholders who have tended to control them. Under Mr.
Zhou, the mps has also adopted many regulations that, at least in principle,
reduce the likelihood that the police will continue to act arbitrarily.

Yet, as Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. warned Americans long ago, general
principles do not decide concrete cases. Every day in China, thousands of
outrageous actions by the policeincluding the secret police operating under
the less-visible Ministry of State Securitychallenge the Politburo to
transform theory into practice and to address the nationwide multitude of
injustices resulting from police misconduct.

Twenty years ago a Chinese friend summed up the situation by saying: High
officials speak beautiful words, but local officials do whatever they wish.
Have things begun to change?

Among the many cases that cry out for Mr. Zhous attention, none is more
challenging than that of blind social activist Chen Guangcheng, a
34-year-old barefoot lawyer from dirt-poor Yinan County in Shandong
Province. Mr. Chen first surfaced outside of China in 2002 when Newsweek
featured him in an eight-page cover story on rural activists who are
learning law on their own and using it to resist the illegal demands of
local officials.

Mr. Chen, for example, had been taking county tax collectors to the county
court because of their insistence that disabled people pay taxes from which
national legislation exempted them. The following year the United States
government invited Mr. Chen to America under its International Visitors
Program for four weeks of meetings with legal-aid groups and other experts
on access to justice.

Mr. Chen made a stunning impression. Young, handsome, earnest and
articulate, from behind dark glasses that hid his blindness, he spoke of
lawless conditions in the countryside with compelling clarity, confidence
and courage. When he and his able wife, who serves as his escort and reader,
returned to China, we met again in Beijing in the hope of persuading
professors, lawyers and law students to go down to the Shandong countryside
in order to train the hundreds of future barefoot lawyers Mr. Chen planned
to recruit in his county alone.

Soon after, my wife and I spent a few days in his village of 480 people in
order to get a better understanding of the varied legal needs of its
disabled and of the reasons why local lawyers and even the local office of
the disabled persons organization refused to take on cases that would put
them in opposition to the local government on which they depended. There was
evidently a demand for the services of barefoot lawyers like Mr. Chen.

Although his earliest lawsuits gave Mr. Chen some initial success, he found
it increasingly difficult to obtain relief for his clientsa congeries of
blind, lame or mentally handicapped peoplefrom county judges who are
appointed, paid and controlled by the very officials Mr. Chen was suing.
Moreover, county and township officials were subjecting him to growing
pressures to cease his activity.

They even tried to deprive him of the support of his fellow villagers, whose
loyalty Mr. Chen had ensured by persuading a British charity to endow his
village with an urgently-needed electronic well system. Yet, with the help
of a few human-rights lawyers from Beijing, he continued to pursue his
litigations against local officials.

The tipping point came this summer when Mr. Chen was overwhelmed and
depressed by the demands of hundreds of people in his area who, since March
of this year, had been suffering a broad range of official abuses inflicted
in the name of birth control. Desperate to put an end to Linyi Citys brutal
campaign of forced abortions and sterilizations, and the massive illegal
imprisonments and beatings that accompanied it, Mr. Chen helped many victims
of the campaign to bring lawsuits against the offending officials in the
county court.

In view of the unresponsiveness of the defendants, the slowness of court
procedures and the dim prospects of victory, Mr. Chen also went to Beijing,
as petitioners have done for centuries. There, unlike traditional
petitioners, Mr. Chen made use of the media in two ways in an effort to
bring the many violations of the nations family planning and criminal laws
to the attention of the central government.

On the one hand, he arranged for a courageous group of young legal scholars
from Beijing to visit Linyi to document the horrors taking place in order to
reveal them on the Internet. On the other, he contacted foreign journalists
in the hope that their dispatches would alert Chinas leaders, often badly
informed by misleading reports from local subordinates, to the real situation.

Both of these efforts proved successful, too successful for Mr. Chens
well-being. The Internet report reached a large number of previously
uninformed Chinese readers, many of whom were under the illusion that
earlier rural birth-control abuses had ceased. The foreign media, led by a
front-page expos in the Washington Post, also took up the cause.

At that point, Linyi officials struck back. On Aug. 11, without any legal
authority, a mob that has ranged from 30 to 200 city, county and township
officials and their henchmen surrounded Mr. Chens impoverished farmhouse
and has since confined him and his wife there around the clock. Their family
phone has been disconnected, their cellphones confiscated and Mr. Chens IBM
computer, specially adapted for use of the blind, was taken away for
temporary safekeeping. His small farmhouse was searched for eight hours.
No detention or house-arrest warrant, no search warrant, no legal fig leaf
has ever been given to the Chens.

Nor is anyone allowed to visit themno journalist, no lawyer, no friend.
Villagers who have voiced their support for the Chens or tried to see them
have been detained by the police. Other would-be visitors have been beaten
by the police-organized mob, as have the Chens whenever they tried to meet
guests.

On one recent occasion, when Mr. Chen was beaten about the head so badly
that blood gushed from his temple, no doctor was permitted to come to his
home, nor was Mr. Chen allowed to seek medical treatment. Every vehicle
driver in the area has been warned not to offer transportation to the Chens.

A friend of the family, himself a sometime member of the surrounding mob,
told Mr. Chens widowed mother that he might be killed if he continued his
activities, and the Linyi police informed him that they were investigating
whether to charge him with revealing intelligence to foreigners, a crime
that often carries a 10-year sentence. Mr. Chen expects to be prosecuted
after U.S. President George W. Bush ends his forthcoming visit to China.

One moonless night at the end of August, Mr. Chen and his wife, together
with a nephew, tried to elude their captors. After a cornfield chase worthy
of a Hollywood thriller, the two men managed to escape, but Mrs. Chen was
caught and forced to return home. Travelling on his own, Mr. Chen eventually
got to Beijing, where he again contacted journalists and lawyers.

But on Sept. 6, over his loud protests and resistance, six men who offered
no explanation waylaid him outside his residence and forced him into an
unmarked car. Convinced that they were witnessing a kidnapping, bystanders
prevented the car from leaving and called Beijing police, who appeared
within minutes. At that point some of the kidnappers identified themselves
as officers of the Shandong Province Police Department and the car was
permitted to leave, despite their failure to produce a warrant for Mr.
Chens detention, as required by law.

After the 12-hour drive back to Yinan County, Mr. Chen was detained for over
a day and unsuccessfully pressured by the police, who mobilized not only his
father-in-law and one of his older brothers to reason with him, but also
the deputy mayor of Linyi City in charge of public security. Mr. Chen was
then returned to enforced isolation at his home, presumably to await either
the outcome of the alleged police investigation or the unlikely event of his
repentance.

All efforts to break this curious stalemate have failed. Journalists and
lawyers who have recently attempted to see Mr. Chen have been stymied either
in Beijing or Linyi. For example, one recent morning, young lawyer Jiang
Tianyong bought a ticket for the night train to Linyi. But he received an
afternoon phone call from the Beijing Judicial Bureau, which regulates
lawyers, berating him for not reporting his plan and telling him, with no
apparent authority, not to make the trip.

Shortly after, Mr. Jiang and others enlisted the more senior and charismatic
lawyer Gao Zhisheng to make the trip. But before he could go, Mr. Gao, who
has challenged other illegal government actions, had his lawyers license
suspended for one year by the Beijing Judicial Bureau. And at least one of
the scholarly authors of the August Internet report on the Linyi scandal has
twice been warned that he will lose his teaching post if he pursues the case.

Hopes to free Mr. Chen were aroused when the central governments Population
and Family Planning Agency, after belatedly conducting its own
investigation, confirmed that abuses had been committed in the Linyi
birth-control campaign and announced that some officials had been removed
and that there might be prosecution of some offenders. But nothing was said
about Mr. Chen.

Why doesnt Minister of Public Security Zhou Yongkang put an end to this
fiasco, which has done so much to damage Chinas reputation? Is it because
the central authorities do not want to encourage further resistance to
overzealous birth-control campaigns? Is it because even Chinas feared mps
has limits in dealing with its local subordinates, at least in cases that do
not involve espionage, democratic groups, the Falun Gong or other high
priority areas? Is it because of a desire to crush those who reveal
unattractive truths to the Internet and foreign media?

for Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Blind activist sues officials over beatings for sterilization protest

Blind activist sues officials over beatings for sterilization protest
Thursday, November 10, 2005

A blind social activist who was put under house arrest and repeatedly beaten
after exposing the forced sterilization of women in east China has filed a
lawsuit against two local officials, his lawyer said Wednesday.

Chen Guangcheng, 34, also a self- educated "barefoot" lawyer, was abducted
from Beijing and put under house arrest at his home in Dongshigu village in
east China's Shandong province two months ago for speaking out against
violations of family planning rules by his local Yinan county.

Officials have since blocked all his channels of contact with the outside
world, cutting his phone line, taking away his computer and confiscating
letters, his lawyer Teng Biao said.

Chen was beaten by several thugs who were allegedly hired by the county
government when he tried to leave his home in early October and was beaten
twice subsequently.

Teng last week filed a lawsuit on behalf of Chen at the Yinan County
People's Court against the deputy head and another township official for
inflicting grievous bodily harm and ordering other people to do the same.

Separately, a man who was tortured into a false confession, jailed for
nearly two years and wrongly sentenced to death is suing two local law
courts for compensation, state media reported Wednesday.

Zhou Rukou, 51, is bringing his case against east China's Yancheng Municipal
Procuratorate and the Yancheng Municipal Intermediate People's Court for
jailing him for 576 days and sentencing him to death, China Daily reported.

Zhou was arrested and detained on April 10, 2002, after being accused of
robbing and murdering an 84-year-old man, it said. The Jiangsu Provincial
High People's Court overturned the verdict in July 2003 on the grounds of
inadequate evidence.

Zhou was released on bail in November 2003, and was exonerated in April when
Yancheng Municipal Procuratorate dropped the case.

Zhou is demanding 1.26 million yuan (HK$1.21 million) in compensation for
the mental distress, loss of freedom and financial losses that he and his
family suffered, the report said. AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE
